Prince Memorial Greenway Creek Restoration and Linear Park
This award-winning design is the restoration of a badly abused inner city creek into a linear park along a landscaped, healthy creek system. Carlile • Macy was the lead design consultant on this innovative undertaking to cleanup, restore, and create a linear park along the downtown section of Santa Rosa Creek. The concrete-lined creek had been abused for years and had become the dumping ground not only for garbage, but also contaminants that had essentially killed all fish populations and had become a home for countless social problems associated with abandoned lands. Carlile • Macy, leading a team of multiple engineers and designers, guided the approval process through the City of Santa Rosa and the Army Corps of Engineers, as well as prepared the master plan for the restoration guiding the public input process and finally prepared the construction documents for the implementation of the design. This $24 million project was constructed in five phases and took a total of seven years to complete. It has received awards from the American Planning Association and from the City of Santa Rosa. The project was featured in an article in Landscape Architecture magazine and is considered an exemplary project in toxic cleanup and creek restoration. The fishery habitat and population have been revived and the park is a major success, drawing people year-round to enjoy their creek.
